Matthew Vanderhorst:

I'm Matthew Vanderhorst.

Amy Frederick:

I'm Amy Frederick. Matthew, Have you been enjoying the fall colors?

Matthew Vanderhorst:

Oh, yeah. It's been so beautiful. And the parks are beautiful, but winter is right around the corner. And I know we have a couple of events coming up.

Amy Frederick:

Oh, I know. The next events are holiday in the Village and Breakfast with Santa, both coming up in December.

Matthew Vanderhorst:

And they'll be here before you know it. And in fact, residents can register for breakfast with Santa starting November 2nd.

Amy Frederick:

I think it'll be fun to check and see how those events are coming along.

Matthew Vanderhorst:

You know, Santa and Mrs. Claus come every year to Montgomery for these events. Let's see what they're up to. Let's give them a call.

Santa Claus:

Ho, ho, ho, ho! You've reached the North Pole for the elves in the toy shop. Press one for Rudolph and all the reindeer. Press two for Mr. and Mrs. Claus, please press three.

Amy Frederick:

Hello, Mrs. Claus, this is Amy and Matthew from the city of Montgomery, Ohio, USA.

Mrs. Claus:

Oh, yes. Hello, my dear. I know exactly where you are located because we love Montgomery. We enjoy visiting each year Here. One moment. Let me put you on speakerphone with Santa. He's sitting right here. We're sitting together next to the fire, enjoying a warm cup of cocoa.

Santa Claus:

Ho, ho, ho, ho! Amy and Matthew from Montgomery. You know, I'm also enjoying a snickerdoodle cookie right now. Ms.. Claus makes the most wonderful cookies.

Amy Frederick:

We were calling to say hello and to check in on how things are going with the upcoming events.

Mrs. Claus:

Montgomery is just magical, and especially during the holidays. The beautiful decorations around town, wonderful residents and city staff and your hometown events makes Montgomery very special. Santa and I are preparing and elves are helping us to.

Santa Claus:

Indeed for holiday in the village. We will start with the tree lighting each and every year At 5 p.m., the reindeer fly with me to the Neuilly-Plaisance fountain area on the corner of Cooper and Montgomery Roads, and I get to see all the wonderful coloring contest winners around the tree. Before we arrive, the elves and I make the presents. We load them up into the sleigh. We bring them to the exact spot to award the winners for all of their hard work with the coloring contest creations, the grand prize winner of the coloring contest gets to help me flip the switch to light the tree and I hear this year will be wonderful carolers dressed in Victorian outfits to spread the cheer and the spirit of the season. I have the privilege of riding with the winners all together in a horse and a wagon to the Universalist Church, and it's so magical. We sing carols along the way. Then this beautiful historical church, you will see it transform into Montgomery's North Pole. And that's where you, Mrs. Claus, help the volunteer elves with crafts.

Mrs. Claus:

Oh, yes, it's wonderful. We have lovely elves. These elves are volunteers from the community who help me in this craft station. They put on their fun elf hat and help kids make a lovely craft. They have such a fun time, and they're such good kids. Kids visit with you, Santa. They bring their lists and share with you what they want. Many families get photos. Refreshments are in the church, including a reindeer trail. Mix with those red and green M&Ms. We have to keep the reindeer away from them. Kids play Penguin Plinko and take a sucker off the tree. There's a fun photo stop on stage two, and families can get their photo with Rudolph. Oh, families can take a ride around beautiful Montgomery in the horse and wagon and they can see those festive decorations and lights.

Santa Claus:

We are also preparing for breakfast with me.

Amy Frederick:

Oh, yes, the breakfast with Santa's event. That's the following week.

Santa Claus:

Yes. I visit with kids and ask them if they've been good this year. Do you know who else is good? The elves who work the event.

Amy Frederick:

We have a lot of staff who volunteer to plan and produce this event.

Santa Claus:

Yes. Let's see. We have those from the fire department, the police department, public works and the city administration. I like that they volunteer to do this. And it brings such a wonderful event to the families.

Amy Frederick:

They are so happy to serve up the best pancakes and sausage. Families can go to the city's website to sign up for a time. Sign-ups are required ahead of time just so that we know we have enough seats for everyone.

Matthew Vanderhorst:

Amy, When do the sign-ups begin?

Amy Frederick:

Starting at 8:00 AM on Wednesday, November 2nd.

Santa Claus:

One important thing to remember is breakfast with me and all the proceeds from the breakfast go towards the holiday family Fun. I especially like this reason. Helping others in need warms my heart.

Amy Frederick:

That sounds fantastic. So, Mrs. Claus, what's the Holiday Family Fund?

Mrs. Claus:

Funds raised from events like this are collected and city staff volunteer to determine what needs are out there. And they purchase supplies and gifts to those that are in need, such as a local orphanage. And then they deliver those supplies and gifts during the holidays.

Santa Claus:

Yes, we are busy, but we always are sure to take good care of ourselves to. We remind me of the reindeer and Ms.. Claus, how important it is to take good care of ourselves.

Amy Frederick:

We are so happy to talk to Santa and Mrs. Claus. Thank you for visiting Montgomery each year.

Mrs. Claus:

It is our sincere pleasure. We look forward to it. It's coming up.

Amy Frederick:
